Yeast extract is also used in so-called "natural" veggie burger products sold in grocery stores and health food stores. In fact, yeast extract is the No. 1 flavor additive of choice for food manufacturers who don't want to list MSG on their labels. Don't trust the labels that say "all natural" on the front. Read the ingredients and look for yeast extract.

| According to FDA law, grocery stores must display a sign noting that waxes or postharvest pesticides have been applied. Unfortunately, most stores do not comply with the law, and the FDA lacks the manpower to enforce it. Currently, the FDA has approved six different waxes for use on produce. Approved compounds include shellac, paraffin, palm oil derivatives, such as carnauba wax, and synthetic resins. These same items are used in furniture, floor, and car waxes. |

They can be found at recognized natural foods stores, and at an increasing number of regular chain grocery stores usually placed in sections designated as "natural" foods.
Or, if you like, you can carry around the definitive guide to food additives when shopping for foods, along with a magnifying glass so you can check the ingredients labels. However, in the interests of your time, stress level and sanity, make life easier by buying natural food brands that do not contain chemical food additives. |

I don't know whether McDonald's uses sodium nitrite in its own products, but I do know that practically every packaged meat product sold in grocery stores contains sodium nitrite. I also know that the human body is designed to live well past 100. To die at any age under 50 requires a sustained poisoning effort: like consuming soft drinks, fried foods, red meat, refined white flour, added sugars, hydrogenated oils and so on. I wonder what ingredients are in a Big Mac these days? |

Americans bathe themselves in toxic chemicals and they do it by buying and using products made by brand name companies that have premier shelf positioning at convenience stores, grocery stores and discount clubs.
One of the more curious personal care products on the market is Herbal Essences Shampoo by Clairol. Personally, I think this product is a joke because it's trying to exploit the word "herbal" to imply that the shampoo is healthy, even though it is primarily made with the same ingredients as other popular shampoos. |

REPPED: There's a new product now available at grocery stores that deserves some attention for people who want to be healthy and avoid heart disease. The product is Nature's Way MacNut Oil (macadamia nut oil). It has most likely been introduced in response to the popularity of the Hamptons diet, which espouses the health benefits of macadamia nuts and macadamia nut oil. Without question, macadamia nut oil is very good for your health; not just your cardiovascular health, but also the healthy function of your nervous system. |

In a bright green world, every shop would stock a selection of equally appealing, yet far more responsibly created apparel at reasonable prices, much like standard grocery stores that now have an aisle or two of natural foods. But for now, we have to read labels and keep our eyes and ears open for new developments.
Look for the following practices and traits common to socially and environmentally responsible apparel: they traveled to hang in your closet. Unless the label explicitly says the garment was made under fair labor conditions, you can't be sure. |
| But look at that photo a bit more closely and you'll find health clinics, beauty salons, grocery stores, bars, restaurants, tailors, clothing stores, churches, and schools. In the midst of squalor and open sewage, the streets are lively and business is booming. What's more, study that shack in the center of the photo—the one made of mud and sticks. Is it simply decaying? Or is the family that lives there reconstituting it around themselves like a cocoon, transforming it

| The results of globalization go beyond the success that U.S. grocery stores have had selling water from Fiji. You can get a Coke in Fiji, or in any of two hundred other nations. In 113 countries, you can use that Coke to wash down a McDonald's hamburger —or, in India, a vegetarian McAloo Tikki burger. You can watch a Bollywood film on your Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to London, where the video store has got all the hot new films from Lagos. And you'd probably need to go to Bhutan to avoid seeing ads for the newest Hollywood film. |

They’re much better than eggs from the standard imprisoned chickens that we get in the common grocery stores.
We should eat more blueberries and all of these incredibly potent berries. We should eat more foods of all the different colors -- purple eggplants, orange carrots, yellow onions, red tomatoes, green peppers. We should just eat the colors of the rainbow in their natural form, because these colors are potent disease-fighting phytonutrients.
We should eat sunshine, actually. We should consume it into our skin. We should consume more water. We should get more fruits. |

Large food distributors set up contracts with grocery stores and give them better prices for their low-quality meats and many other foods. As part of the deal, these grocers sign agreements that they won't sell locally produced foods in their stores. This is an anti-competition scam that is helping multinational agribusiness destroy our rural communities. The New Hunter-Gatherer has a social responsibility to help change this situation through purchasing decisions. If we don't do this, high-quality food may soon disappear entirely from our food supply. |

| HOWTO SELECT AND STORE
Basil can often be found fresh in grocery stores. This is the easiest way to purchase and use basil, as it is much more aromatic when fresh. Look for crisp, vibrant green leaves with no signs of decay. Basil can also be easily grown in pots and can be kept inside for one year, pruned regularly to prevent flowering.
Fresh basil should be lightly rinsed and stored in the refrigerator wrapped in a slightly damp paper towel for up to one week. It may also be frozen, either whole or chopped, in airtight containers. |

Highly processed, packaged foods that require little to no preparation fill the majority of space in our grocery stores. Convenience foods boasting that you can "just pop it in the toaster or microwave," or better yet, "just open the package and eat it," are common fair. But while convenience, supersizing, superpricing and slick advertising may initiate the first purchase, taste is what will keep 'em coming back for more. Thus there is the emergence of yet another vast industry within the food industry; the business of flavoring. |
| As a result, a few regular grocery stores, including one right near my house, stock a good amount of natural food brands as well. I love shopping at this supermarket because it carries most everything I can get at the health food store, in addition to all the most popular pseudofood brands. That way I can keep up with what's being made available on both fronts.
For example, I was recently drawn to investigate a box of frozen fruit pops because it was a brand I would normally never recommend, and yet it boasted 100% Natural on the front of the box. |
| Eating only natural brand processed foods available at natural foods stores and also increasingly found at conventional grocery stores will greatly reduce the chances of running into these health robbers. However, check labels carefully to ferret out fake health food brands as we discussed earlier. These substances are not food, don't eat them! |
| Also be sure to take advantage of the many pre-washed bagged salads, herbs, baby carrots and other chopped raw, veggies now available at grocery stores. Once again, check labels to be sure nothing has been added as a preservative, which is sometimes the case. Similarly, you will want to keep plenty of raw fruit around for a sweet and easy snack. These ready-to-eat raw foods are the healthiest fast foods out there.
When you do head out the door, be sure to pack it in! |

Why isn't there labeling in the grocery stores, in every grocery store in this country?
E: Well, there isn't labeling because the FDA banned it. And in my 1995 book The Safe Shoppers Bible, we published information on some four thousand consumer products, food, cosmetics and household products and showed that in the majority of those in common use, there are avoidable toxic and carcinogenic ingredients, while safe non-mainstream alternatives are available.
A: Why isn't there labeling?
E: To all intents and purposes, it has been banned. A: Why is that a ban? |

So green was meaning green, and so they incorporated that into Dean Foods, and now the Silk brand of soymilk is one of the biggest sellers in Starbucks and grocery stores; it's everywhere. And the margins on that business were running around 20 percent; the margins on the milk and dairy business that made up most of Dean's products were around about 2 or 3 percent. So green means green today. A lot of people really appreciate that; they're willing to pay more or to pay more for a higher quality product or for something that benefits the planet. |

In contrast to that, most of the foods that are available in grocery stores (and certainly at restaurants) are really unhappy foods. They are foods that have been grown in unnatural environments. They've been bombarded with pesticides or herbicides. They have not been given clean water and, more importantly, have been planted and harvested under a system of greed, exploitation and corporate farming. Then, they've been processed and had their nutrients stripped away. |

We have the best selection of health food stores and healthy grocery stores of any country in the world. Of course, it depends on what city you're in. If you are in St. Louis, you're not going to get a very good selection at the grocery store compared to what you might find in San Francisco, for example, or Seattle. But if you're in the right city and you're at the right store, you have a fantastic selection of fresh produce in this country.

It's the walk or run for a cure! At grocery stores, cashiers ask if you want to donate a dollar to help find the cure. Other retailers want to sell you fashion-minded colored bracelets that raise money to find the cure. There's always someone who wants your money in exchange for the hope that your dollar will somehow help them "find a cure" for some awful disease.
I have a very big question to ask about all of this. This has literally been going on for decades. Researchers have been searching for a cure for cancer since the late 1960s, and for other diseases since at least the 1970s. |

You can get organic vegetable broth from Trader Joe's, health food stores, or even many of the finer grocery stores that have a natural health section. The key is to get organic vegetable broth that does not contain excitotoxins. These are ingredients that cause neurological disorders because they overexcite and harm nerve cells. Those ingredients are MSG, yeast extract, autolyzed yeast extract, hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, and other similar ingredients. Warning: watch out for broth products made by Kitchen Basics. |

In fact, if you want to make all food healthier, set up prayer stations where people of all sorts of different religions and spiritual backgrounds either meditate or pray over the food as it passes by them on its way out to the grocery stores. By praying over the foods, you alter the memory of the water in those foods. You make those foods happier, more balanced, and more calming. |
